Abstract

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by SARS-COV2, represents the causative agent of a potentially fatal disease that is of significant public health concern. The virus emerged from Wuhan, China, and resulted in a formidable outbreak affecting countries globally. Person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 infection led to the isolation of patients who were subsequently administered a variety of treatments. Extensive measures have been implemented to control the current outbreak. It is of paramount importance to be aware of the symptoms, precautionary steps, and modes of transmission of the infection. This review also highlights the various testing methods to detect the virus, its mechanism, and its effectiveness. Emphasis is also laid on a strategy adopted, contact tracing, whose effectiveness depends on the characteristics of both the pathogen and the response.
